What's a Mobile Parklet?
The Mobile Parklet project is way to raise awareness about storm water management issues in Pittsburgh, add green space to the urban landscape and offer busy pedestrians a place to sit and enjoy Downtown.
By replacing 1 1/2 parking spaces with soil and trees, the parklet helps to remove storm water run off that overwhelms the Pittsburgh sewer system especially after heavy rain. The water instead is used by the trees and plants and additional excess is slowly released after filtering through top soil and gravel.
The parklet is fully mobile and is currently adjacent to the August Wilson Center at William Penn Place at 7th Avenue.
