The Liberty Avenue and 10th Street bus stop used to be located directly opposite the August Wilson Center. It was often over-crowded, serving many user of the East busway on just a 10ft sidewalk. The location did not offer enough space for waiting passengers, especially in the afternoon, and the limited sidewalk space left no room for a shelter or seating.
To improve the waiting experience, the bus stop was moved to the opposite side of 10th Street, outside the Westin Hotel. Here there was already additional sidewalk capacity created by a small pedestrian plaza that allowed us to better accommodate waiting transit riders.
The extra space at this new location also allowed the addition of a bus shelter and lean rail to enhance users experience. The bus shelter design (without back and sides) has been successful at providing protection from the elements while still allowing passengers to flow through the space to get on and off the bus.
